Who We Are
YNOT Outdoors formed in 2002, as a way for parents to place their kids into a safe, fun, active and stimulating summer environment, while maintaining a dependable drop-off & pickup location, with space for our program to operate, if the weather does not cooperate with our outdoor, scheduled events. We have the independence of full-size school buses, that we own, affording us the opportunity to “get out there on a long leash”, travelling Central Illinois, the safest way, possible. Founders are Jamie & Mitzi Loftus, from Springfield. As of 2004, YNOT Outdoors is a 501©3 organization and an Illinois corporation in good standing.
What YNOT Does
YNOT Summer Camp gets kids out and about, during the summer. Typical day-cares fail to stimulate & exercise the body and mind, over long periods. We organize field trips and mix them with trips to parks, fishing, hiking & biking venues and travel with our own equipment for organized field-sports, guaranteeing the school-agers an active and fun summer. YNOT After School provides 3-hour, post-dismissal, latch-key care for school-agers in the BCSD and PUSD districts. Parents can direct and designate the school Transportation Offices to drop their kids off at our After School locations.
Who Are the People With Your Kids?
Our staff Counselors are generally, college students or very mature high-school seniors. Each is interviewed by both the local Day Director and the Executive Director, then backgrounded via State Police and adverse filings before hiring. Most Counselors are heading towards a degree in education, psychology, law enforcement, medical, hospitality, physical therapy or phys-ed, or other areas of work where being a YNOT Counselor has benefit. Our Day Directors are hand-picked for their proven experience, ability to communicate, ability to multi-task and oversee staff and must have their “head on a swivel”. Our staff are outstanding.
Where Does YNOT Exist?
YNOT has facilities at 301 North Breckenridge, in Chatham, near the water tower, for Summer Camp drop-off and for After School. YNOT leases Sugar Creek United Methodist Church on the New City Blacktop, for Summer Camp, only. For 18 plus years, YNOT has leased the West Campus of Sacred Heart Griffin for Summer Camp, only. For logistical reasons, we are not continuing there. YNOT is expanding to a Pawnee, IL presence, leasing the Pawnee Assembly of God facilities, for both Summer Camp, and After School, starting in 2025.
How Do Folks Sign Up for YNOT?
What used to be paper signup, is now online. For Summer Camp, each location has a registration kickoff time, generally March 1, for services that begin near June 1. This gives parents the opportunity to plan and budget about 90 days ahead. The link to online enrollment will be posted publicly, on www.ynotoutdoors.org, March 11th.
For After School, the same principals apply. We generally offer signup around July 4th, for After School services, but will be starting to offer that, even sooner, across the next few months.
What Does it Cost?
Summer Camp is $195/week at Pawnee and $200 at Chatham, per week. After School program at both locations is $90/week.
